I am a marine biologist, keen SCUBA diver and wildlife photographer, and have just completed my PhD at the University of Glasgow (Scotland), which was looking into how deep-sea fish populations and communities respond to natural change as well as human impacts. I have spent most of my career studying and identifying Scotland's marine life and their ecology, and I care deeply about the future of our oceans. I am a BSAC Advanced Diver and Open water Instructor and was the Diving Officer for the Glasgow University Sub-Aqua Club (GUSAC) between 2009 and 2014 which kept me busy! I love being at sea, and this is where I find most of my photographic subjects, both above and below the surface of the waves.
The vast majority of my diving is done in the green waters of Scotland, which I love. The diversity of life around our coasts can be phenomenal, but I think it is relatively unknown to most people. I would love to be able to share some of the passion I have for the marine world through my photography, and this is what I am trying to achieve in this gallery. Hopefully, you'll see something new and interesting in these pages.
I believe that a good wildlife photograph should be an honest representation of a moment in the life of an animal or the environment, and to that extent do not manipulate or 'photoshop' my photographs beyond the necessary basic adjustments (e.g. levels, curves, sharpening). I also believe that wildlife photography should be of wild animals in their natural environment, and so you will not find any images of captive or trained animals in these galleries (except for the occasional SCUBA diver!).
